Class Description:

Send your child to a magical world, where they will be transformed into a Master artist! Your child will have lots of fun learning how to use various techniques such as drawing upside down to trick the brain to see artwork differently---the possibilities are endless! They will use many mediums including clay, wood items to build or paint, and more. They will create works of art with watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels, chalk and a variety of other materials to experiment and to create.  They will be introduced to the materials, techniques, concepts, and processes essential to understanding specific visual artistic styles in a fun atmosphere.  They will be exposed to the works of African and African American Master artists and learn the historical context surrounding and propelling these artists. Your child will then be prompted to analyze the work and to create art work in the spirit of the artistic style using the techniques and principles that they have learned.

The Master artists covered in this course are purposely chosen not only for the cultural diversity that they bring but also for their various art styles such as Expressionism (Ablade Glover, Ghanaian), Realism (Henry Tanner, African American), Abstraction (Romare Bearden, African American), Impressionism (Loïs Mailou Jones).
